Officer Elections Announced
John Jacobs, CLU, chairman, president and CEO of UNIFI Companies, announced the following officer elections were effective September 1.
Steven Valerius, FLMI, was elected president of The Union Central Life Insurance Company. He also serves as senior vice president Individual and Retirement Plans Division.
Steve joined Union Central in 1986 as assistant comptroller. He has held numerous officer positions during his tenure, including vice president marketing financial and administration, vice president individual client services, marketing financial and administration, and senior vice president marketing and customer service.
He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Cincinnati.
Steve is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Ohio Society of CPAs.
Bob Barth, CPA, FLMI, was elected senior vice president and chief financial officer Ameritas Life Insurance Corp., Acacia Life Insurance Company and The Union Central Life Insurance Company. Bob is responsible for setting financial policies, providing economic analysis of transactions and reporting the financial position and results of the operations.
He began his career at Ameritas as senior group accountant in 1984, and has held various positions in accounting during his tenure. Most recently, he served as senior vice president, controller and chief accounting officer.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, Bob is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Nebraska Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Liz Martini was elected vice president and general counsel Union Central. Liz manages and directs the overall operations of the law and corporate relations department in Cincinnati. She provides counsel and advice to determine legal implications and actions, monitors and advises on regulatory issues, and serves as advisor to UNIFI Individual and Retirement Plans Division.
Liz started with Union Central in November 1986 as an attorney. She has served as senior attorney and counsel, second vice president and counsel, and most recently as vice president and managing attorney.
She graduated cum laude from Ohio Northern University with a B.A. degree and earned her juris doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
Liz is a member of American Council of Life Insurers, Association of Ohio Life Insurance Companies legislative committee and SOLI/IOLI subcommittee, Association of Life Insurance Counsel, Association of Corporate Counsel, Defense Research Institute and Cincinnati Bar Association.
Dennis Peyton was elected second vice president individual claims for The Union Central Life Insurance Company, Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. and Acacia Life Insurance Company. Peyton is responsible for the individual life and disability claims operations for both the Cincinnati, Ohio and Lincoln, Neb. home offices.
Bringing 25 years of claims experience, Peyton joined the company in June of this year.
A graduate of Olivet Nazarene University, in Kankakee, Ill., Peyton earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.
April Rimpley, ACS, FLMI, was elected second vice president group customer relations and operations for Ameritas Group. She is responsible for the claims processing, support services and claims data entry teams, as well as administration teams.
April started with Ameritas in 1998 as a group administration client service representative. She has served in numerous positions for the group division, most recently as assistant vice president group customer relations and operations.
A graduate of Wayne State College (WSC), Wayne, Neb., April earned a B.A. degree in psychology and minored in business. She obtained her secondary education teaching certification from WSC in business and psychology. She obtained her Master of Arts degree in management with an emphasis in leadership from Doane College.
April serves as chair of the education committee for the National Dental Electronic Data Interchange Council (NDEDIC), is a member of the education committee for the Young Professionals Group (YPG) and is a board member for the Capital Humane Society.
Michael J. White, CLU, ChFC, was elected second vice president and associate general counsel for Union Central. He is responsible for tax and employee benefit matters. He also provides advice and legal counsel on administrative and marketing issues regarding annuity, life insurance and disability products.
Michael joined Union Central in 1987 as an advance sales specialist. During his career with the company, he served as assistant tax counsel in the tax department and assistant counsel in the law department.
He graduated from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and earned his juris doctorate from the University of Dayton School of Law, Dayton, Ohio.
Michael holds the FINRA Series 6 securities license. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and Society of Financial Service Professionals.
